May 2009
To further our commitment to reducing the risk of exposure to disease-causing bacteria at recreational beaches, EPA is posting the latest data about beach closings and advisories for the 2008 swimming season. The Beaches Environmental Assessment and Coastal Health (BEACH) Act of 2000 requires that coastal and Great Lakes states and territories report their coastal recreation water monitoring and notification data to EPA. To help protect the public, the BEACH Act also requires EPA to maintain an electronic monitoring and notification database of that data.
