Peer Review of EPA’s Draft Risk Evaluation for Di-isodecyl Phthalate (DIDP) and Draft Hazard Assessment for Di-isononyl Phthalate (DINP)
In May 2024, EPA released for public comment and peer review the draft risk evaluation for Di-isodecyl phthalate (DIDP) and the draft hazard assessment for Di-isononyl phthalate (DINP) prepared under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). EPA will hold a virtual public meeting for the Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals (SACC) to consider and review these draft documents from July 30-August 2, 2024.
Additionally, EPA will hold a preparatory virtual public meeting on July 23, 2024, for the SACC and the public to consider and ask questions regarding the scope and clarity of the draft charge questions for the review.
EPA will announce instructions for registering for the July 23 and July 30-August 2 meetings on this webpage approximately one month prior to the meetings.
On February 29, 2024, EPA published the Federal Register notice 89 FR 14648 requesting nominations of prospective ad hoc expert reviewers to assist the SACC with their peer review. The nomination period ended on April 1, 2024. After reviewing nominations, EPA called for public comment on the interested and available candidates under consideration as prospective ad hoc reviewers. Biographies of these prospective reviewers are available via docket EPA-HQ-OPPT-2024-0073 and through the link below. The comment period closed on May 9.
On May 24, 2019, EPA received manufacturer requests to conduct risk evaluations for DIDP and DINP under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). In December 2019, EPA notified the requesters that the Agency had granted their manufacturer requested risk evaluations. EPA will be soliciting comments from the SACC on the novel approaches used, the unique exposure analyses and other calculations, and selection of key hazard endpoints. The SACC’s peer review will inform the Agency’s final risk evaluations and risk management decisions under TSCA.
